Ewa is now in the hospital. Her left leg was amputated, she is left homeless and without any means of survival. We are gathering money to:

- make sure she has a wheelchair in the months before she gets a prosthesis
- help her get a good prosthesis
- help her get a place to live and cover expenses for a while

Background

Ewa is an older woman who had a very low income. It is difficult for women of her age to find any job and the dishwashing jobs she had were only part-time because they don't offer other types of contracts.

Ewa was living in a tiny flat, about 18 meters, owned by the State Treasury. It had no room even for a refrigerator. But they wanted to get her out because the practice is to evict older tenants so they can rent to people who pay more.

The reason they used to justify moves to evict her was that her husband died many years ago and the lease was originally in his name. That didn't stop them from taking rent from her for 22 years.

When they started these moves, she went on rent strike. We blocked the first eviction attempt. Then the city, who got sick of our direct actions, decided to make a show during the next attempt and sent loads of police to remove us by force.
Ewa fainted and had to be taken to the hospital.

Although the Constitution forbids it, she was thrown in the street and offered no place to go. Not even to a homeless shelter.

She was in shock after that and very upset. A couple of days later, she was hit by a truck. She is lucky to be alive. We think this accident happened because of the circumstances.

So now, besides being homeless, she has no leg, she won't be able to work for a while and will be lucky to get any work in the future.

The State is comprised of blood-sucking vampires. The „help” she might get, if lucky, will hardly help. Prior to her eviction, bureaucrats refused to put her on a list for a social flat (even though her income qualified) because they said she wasn't homeless.
The unemployed, poor, invalids are treated very badly here. We want to do something to help Ewa, who has been of so much help to others. She took part in lots of actions and tenants actions as well, blocking other people's evictions. Protesting firings and poor working conditions.

If anybody would be inclined to help with a donation, we would sincerely appreciate it.

We have had a number of cases of repression this year, our funds are low and so we are spreading this appeal widely.
